With a stunning 16-inch screen and a full suite of built-in software and hardware, the Pavilion HDX16t is one of the finest mobile machines available today, and with a starting price of about $899, it won’t kill your bank account.

The HDX16t comes standard with an Intel Core 2 Duo T6600(2.2GHz) processor with 3GB of RAM, so you shouldn’t have any trouble running a full variety of programs, whether you’re using it at the office or if you’re looking to play the latest games; however, if your modus operandi is state-of-the-art gaming, then you’re probably better off upgrading to the Intel Core 2 Duo 9900(3.06GHz) processor with 8GB of RAM. For operating systems, you can choose from the full line of Microsoft Windows Vista programs or you can upgrade to the new Windows 7 platform.

HDX16t HD Display

The HP Pavilion HDX16t comes with a 16-inch high-definition display with a native resolution of 1366×768 pixels, and is backlit for especially difficult lighting situations. The screen is sharp and the colors are bright, but still realistic. For typing and interface, the laptop has a full-size keyboard with number pad as well as a large touch pad with buttons and scroll bars. If you’re truly looking to replace your desktop with the HDX16t, however, you should probably invest in a mouse, which is more ergonomically sound than the touch pad. The HDX16t also comes with a built-in Webcam so you can stay in touch with friends and loved ones far from home or with business associates working remotely.

There’s plenty of connectivity built in to the HP Pavilion HDX16t; there’s a standard Gigabit Ethernet card to ensure that you can connect to the world even if you can’t find a Wireless signal. There’s also an Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card for all of your portable connection or in-home Wireless needs. If you want to use a wireless peripheral, opt for the mini-card with Bluetooth.

Power and Connectivity

A 6-cell Lithium Ion battery comes standard on the HP Pavilion HDX16t, which provides about four to five hours of life on a single charge. Since the HDX16t is a powerful machine, it also takes a lot of battery power, so you may want to opt for the 12-cell battery, which will provide you with about 10 hours of full use on a single charge. Of course, if you’re stationary, you can always plug in the AC adapter and enjoy unlimited use.

The HDX16t comes with numerous ports for a wide array of peripheral use. There are four USB ports, a single expansion port, a FireWire port, an HDMI output for use with digital monitors and televisions, laptop lock, Blu-Ray/DVD-R, a VGA output, an SD card reader, a microphone input and two headphone outputs.

Durable and sturdy, the HP Pavilion HDX16t is built with a solid metal frame wrapped in a thick plastic skin. The keyboard has a lot of give, but it still feels well-built. There is a spill guard beneath the keys to prevent spill damage and, though it’s heavy for everyday travel, theHDX16t feels strong enough to endure any number of travel situations.

Next best thing to computing heaven?

Very powerful, relatively inexpensive, and great for entertainment consumers as well as office users, the HP Pavilion HDX16t is a versatile mobile replacement for your bulky desktop. As we said in our HP Pavilion HDX 16t Review in February, with the exception of the HDX 18t, the HP Pavilion HDX16t is the next best thing to perfection!
